Technology Director for ECU’s new university campus in the heart of Perth, WA. This new 65,000 m2 facility with 500+ spaces, houses the School of Business & Law, School of Arts & Humanities and one of the world’s leading performance training institutes, the Western Australian Academy for the Performing Arts (WAAPA). Campus includes:


  • Recital Hall, Playhouse & Flexible Theatres, Jazz & Contemporary Venues, Music Ensemble & Practice Rooms, Aerial Movement, Dance and Movement & Voice studios
  • Broadcast, Visual Radio, Spatial Audio, Film Editing and Podcast studios, Newsroom, Motion Capture, Virtual Production with LED wall and Media Production suites

  • 420m2 internal LED wall and external façade lighting Media Architecture, Security Operations Centre, Moot Court, Medical Centre, Galleries, Student Precincts and Digital Signage
  • Hybrid Classrooms, integrated to the Learning Management System and included in all specialist spaces noted above, for a seamless Teaching & Learning experience across campus


Completed the new Teaching & Learning building – Boola Katitjin – at Murdoch University. Winner of the WAF World’s Best Academic Building and CAUDIT Award for Enhancing the Student Experience in 2023, this University challenged the norm and pursued integrated Hybrid teaching at a scale never seen before. Additionally included, Digital Immersive Lab (AR & VR), Digital Art, Wayfinding, RTLS Wireless and supporting applications, platforms and an advanced network, were implemented


Construction & IT Project Manager for first combined Air Traffic Control Tower and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting facility in Australia; the first Air Traffic Control tower using electronic flight strip technology in Australia. Additionally, supervised the “Go Live” of the National Towers Program, which included Broome, Melbourne, Adelaide and Rockhampton new Air Traffic Control towers.


 25 years of experience managing diverse projects and stakeholder groups. ECU City Campus – Technology Director

Brought on specifically to formulate and implement the technology solution for the ECU City Campus, which caters to the School of Business & Law, School of Arts & Humanities (SAH) and the Western Australian Academy for the Performing Arts (WAAPA). With over 500 spaces across 65,000m2 of Teaching & Learning, Music, Dance and Show Performance; Broadcast, Film, Motion Capture, and Screen Production – this facility is the University of the Future.

ECU City Campus ($853M):

  • Organisational Vision – Reviewed the University’s vision and strategies for ECU, with the University’s Executives
  • Stakeholder Consultation – Coordinated, documented and prioritized all key stakeholder input, including identifying requirements, user stories and desired capabilities
  • Business Case – Developed the Technology Program Business Case, inclusive of prioritization
  • Technology Program – Managed the design and development of the transformative Teaching & Learning Hybrid solution, along with the internal program to provide supporting Applications, Network, Building Services integrations, General User Interfaces (GUI), and WAAPA & SAH Loose FFE
  • Technology Design Coordination – coordinated the technology design for the campus, including Broadcast, Virtual Production, Media Architecture and all Music & Performance specialist spaces.

New Academic Building – Boola Katitjin Technology Program Manager

Brought on specifically to formulate and implement the technology solution for the New Academic Building at Murdoch University. Boola Katitjin, caters to approximately 60% of the teaching & learning for the entire University. This transformational facility is the largest timber structure in WA – modern, sustainably designed and digitally enhanced facility, is now the gold standard of hybrid teaching and learning.

Senior Construction Project Manager/Services Manager

Senior Construction Project Manager for Icon, delivering technical projects. Along with project management, served as the company’s Services Manager for the Perth Office. Assisting all types of project in the design, coordination, installation and commissioning across all services.

Key Project involvement:

  • Equinix PE3 Data Centre ($76M) – Senior Project Manager for this Design & Construct Data Centre project. Managed Business Case, Resourcing, Subcontractor engagement, Design and Construction, along with managing over $20M of client supplied equipment, including coordination and design
  • Wellington St Student Accommodation ($52M) – Project Manager (split role) for the Planning, Services Design, Procurement and subcontractor/trade sequencing, for this 40 story student accommodation consisting of 433 beds and commercial tenancies
  • Equinix Stage 2B Data Centre ($10M) – Project Manager for theDesign & Construct of a cold shell Data Centre fit out within an existing operational facility. Import & installation the UK Bladeroom system along with coordinating the design, construction and client supplied equipment installation and overall commissioning
  • Milcon Combined Communications Gateway ($10M) – Services Manager for this project, which was for the US Navy and consisted of a Data Centre along with a large electrical upgrade, at a joint satellite communication base in Geraldton, WA
  • RAAF Curtin Defence Fuel Installation Remediation – Services Manager for this project, which consisted of the electrical, fuel piping and fire services remediation, at the AVGAS facility at RAAF Curtain Air Base near Derby, WA and relocated/rebuilt the light vehicle fuelling facility
  • Tenders – Bid Manager for large tenders for the company > $50M – NAVFAC ($120M), BHP ($250M), PE3 ($76M)

           

        January 2015 – October 2018

Senior Project Manager – Information Technology Infrastructure

Working in an ITIL®/Prince2®/Agile® environment in University Services, oversaw the end-to-end design, procurement and deployment of IT networks/telecommunications/systems for all new builds and large refurbishments across all University Campuses. Mentored a number of Project Managers into similar roles due to increased building developments. Simultaneously, managed a number of diverse projects including firewall, server and system refresh, replacements and migrations.

Key Project involvement:

  • New Build IT deployments – 11 Barry St, Arts West, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Bio21 Stage 2B, WEBS, Werribee Teaching & Learning – oversaw the building communication design, Cisco network procurement, configuration and deployments, along with phones, printers and bespoke IT systems integrations
  • Queensberry Data Centre Power upgrade – managed project to procure and install 3rd Diesel Rotary Uninterrupted Power Supply (DRUPS) and unified all power within the DC
  • Data Centre Migration – migrated an entireData Centre worth of application to a new network topology
  • Firewall Replacement – Managed Cisco firewall replacement with next generation Palo-Alto firewall
  • Integrated Parking Solution – managed project to develop Service Now portal for staff and students to manage parking passes/salary sacrifice/faculty parking and integrating this with License Plate Recognition, at each of the four main campus carparks
  • Network Refresh – managed multiple projects upgrading and refreshing numerous campus buildings networks

 October 2013 – September 2014

Implementation Manager/Senior Project Consultant    (Melbourne & Malaysia)    

Originally hired on as a senior project consultant to mentor the project manager in Malaysia for two months, continued on to work out of the Essendon Fields office, to manage several implementations and feasibility studies.

Key Project involvement:

  • PETRONAS Warehousing and Distribution – Guided the project team in Malaysia with the start up and implementation of the supply chain & distribution solution for oil & gas by-products, for customer PETRONAS.
  • Compiled Project Initiation Documentation outlining all tasks and outcomes
    • Assembled Operational Safety Systems for onsite implementation
    • Developed project management Tools and Templates
    • Mentored project team in Project Management Tools and Methodologies
  • BP & Shell Fuel Distribution ($40M) – Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane – Managed the implementation and transition of the bulk fuels distribution for Shell in Victoria and BP in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Managed stakeholder groups along with the procurement of $28M worth of prime movers, single barrel and B-Double trailers combinations (56 in total). Oversaw the recruitment and training of 150 drivers and staff to operate out of three locations. Managed the acquisition of three set down properties across three states and developed them with driver amenities, staff offices and truck set down areas.
  • Dulux Warehouse Consolidation ($28M) – Sydney – Lead a team to review the feasibility of combining two warehouses into one large 24,000 m2 distribution centre, for a large international manufacturer of protection and finishing products.  From concept design, project planning, centre of gravity studies, to compiling financial models for a 10 year contract, this feasibility project was completed and submitted for customer approval
  • P&G Warehouse 3 Transition ($4.6M) – Managing the transition of four customers (Tobacco and Banking) from an existing facility in Greystanes to a new warehouse in Erskine Park. Project planning, stakeholder coordination and IT transition were fundamental components to the successful transition

Project Manager – Information Technology Infrastructure

Working in an ITIL®/Prince2® environment in the Information Technology Services department, my role was to advise and implement the technology solution for all new builds and refurbishments, across all eight campuses of the University of Melbourne, along with the relocation of staff and students into their new facilities. Responsible for a team of network engineers, we were tasked with the design, procurement and installation of the physical and wireless networks.

Key Project involvement:

  • Faculty of Business and Economics – Network design, implementation and relocation of approximately 250 staff, along with the activation of interactive lecture and meeting rooms, across 6 levels of an existing building.
  • Faculty of Arts Student Centre – Network design and implementation of a new student centre for the faculty. Oversaw installation of student computer labs, student queuing kiosks and student/staff meeting rooms in time for term start
  • Austin Hospital Campus – Managed an audit of existing IT network infrastructure serving approximately 150 University staff and students across 5 buildings. Outlined network upgrade options to client and implemented chosen option which included new fibre links, switches and wireless network coverage.

August 2010–November 2012

Construction & Technology Project Manager

Transferred over from Incoll/Savills, to continue working on the design, construction and delivery of an combined Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower & Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) facility, in Broome, WA. Additionally, supervised the “Go Live” of the National Towers Program, which included Broome, Melbourne, Adelaide and Rockhampton new ATC towers.

Construction Project Manager

Initially started with Incoll managing new builds and refurbishments for the Building the Education Revolution (BER) within the Melbourne and Loddon-Mallee region. Following the BER start up, was seconded to Airservices Australia to join the National Towers Program (NTP) – the programming, design management, construction and delivery of four new Air Traffic Control (ATC) Towers across Australia.

Project involvement:

  • Integrated Air Traffic Control Tower and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility at Broome International Airport, WA
  • Temporary Class D ATC facility at Broome International Airport, WA
  • Involved in the above projects with regards to all stage of planning, design documentation, contractor procurement, budgeting, stakeholder consultation and management
  • Initial planning, procurement and design of ATC Tower and ARFF station refurbishments at Karratha Airport, WA
  • Initial sighting and tender documentation for 30 new buildings and refurbishments of schools across the northern metro and Loddon-Mallee region
  • Compiled Start up, Investigative Phase and Tender documentation
  • Created the template Contract documents for all school contracts within Victoria

Construction Project Manager

Employed initially by Capital Insight for the USYD Campus 2010 Redevelopment Program ($265m), to assist the Project Director in procurement, payments, variations, commitment requisitions across 10 projects.

Subsequently became Project Manager, responsible for the total delivery of projects from initiation thorough design and delivery stages at the University of Sydney, within Heritage listed buildings. Acquired all statutory approvals – Development Applications, Construction Certificates and Occupation Certificates. Engagement of consultants, contractors, scheduling, management of the project budget/cost plan, variations, project handover and defects rectifications.

Project involvement:

  • United States Studies Centre fit out ($5.3M) – completed in 2 stages Sept 2008
  • Electron Microscope Unit fit out ($3.5M) – completed in 3 stages Oct 2008

Simon Fraser University         

June, 2004 – February 2007

Design Manager/Senior User

Coordinating 35 Research Group’s in Health Science, Chemistry, Animal Welfare, Applied Science and the Nano Fabrication group – 4D Labs, in all aspects of project planning, design, equipment documentation and construction. Essential to this role was to understand the stakeholder’s equipment and operational requirements and to translate these requirements into a functionally designed facility. This was a $100M, design-build fast track building, which was designed while under construction, with a total design and construction time of 2.5 years

Technical and Science Complex 2 ($100M):

  • Coordinating over 300 stakeholders
  • Animal Resources Centre – 1,700 m2
  • Wet Research Labs – 3,000 m2
  • Class 100 Clean rooms – 400 m2
  • Server Rooms and Offices
  • Introduced new sustainable design technologies to facilitate better Science
  • Procurement, relocation and installation of $40M worth of research equipment

Reporting on cost, time, program and risk directly to the Vice-President of Research and Building Committee consisting of the University’s governing council, this project was delivered on time, to budget and functionality required by the users.

Research Technician

Concurrently with the above role, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the gas chromatograph/mass spectrum facilities for the Chemistry Department. Analysis of samples for the research groups on campus and for industry. Familiar with all states of GC/MS, MALDI, electrospray, quadrupole and ion trap technologies.

King’s University College

August 2002 – June, 2004

Computer Science and Natural Science Technician

Responsible for the start-up and operation of the Computer Science Department’s servers, networks and computing laboratories for the University. Setup of servers and networks included programming Authentication, LANs, NFS, DHCP, TCP/IP, FTP, SSH, Sendmail, Apache2, Databases (MySQL & Postgre), Java/JDK, PHP, CGI, Perl and other Computer Science applications.

Also responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of all research and teaching equipment in the Chemistry Department including a GC/MS, 400Mhz NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis and HPLC. Undertook analysis of samples for researchers and industry, along with training students on the equipment.

University of Waterloo

System and Network Administrator/Security Consultant

Administrator for the Science Department across 25 servers for over 5000 users. Responsible for the installation of network lines and switches. Familiar with TCP/IP, RedHat, Solaris 8, Cisco switches and Synoptics hubs. Developed remote internet access sites for students and employees, along with security analysis of production systems – intrusion and penetration detection.

Concurrent with the above role, organized and managed projects for the Chemistry, Biology and Physics Departments for the procurement, installation, and operation of highly sophisticated scientific equipment – NMRs, MBE, EPRs, X-rays, SEMs. Facilitated office and laboratory decommissioning, relocations and refurbishments.
